Aside from the social aspect of the Mid-Atlantic Rally, one of the key reasons we put events together is to raise donations for worthy causes, and to give back to the community. We are all extremely fortunate and blessed, and it's important to us that we spread a little cheer where we can.
We do this by donating all proceeds from events to the charity(s) we selected for each year the rally is held. The organizing team pays their own way, no one collects a salary, and everyone pays the same rate.
Here is a brief history of our events, and the funds raised to support the community. To see more information about the charities, keep scrolling...
Yellow Ribbon Girls
The Yellow Ribbon Girls are a faith based group of local volunteers supporting deployed service men and women through monthly care packages containing supplies, treats, cards and crafts. There are many items that you may have in your home or that are inexpensive but would truly make daily life easier for so many. Please collect a few items, write letters or make crafts for our Soldiers, then contact the Yellow Ribbon Girls to get those items distributed. Fisher House
For 2019, our charity beneficiary is the Portsmouth Fisher House. Don’t know what that is? Here is a quick rundown.
When a service member needs specialized care, family is important. Fisher Houses are located near military hospitals, and provide a place for family members to stay, for free, to be part of the healing process. And they do it with all private funding. Yes, they are on military bases, but the only official support they get is permission to have a property on the base. The facility is staffed, and funded, through the support of the community.
Portsmouth Fisher House is located on the property of Naval Medical Center Portsmouth at NSA Hampton Roads, right in our area, and serves a critical need for families who are already going through a traumatic time.Last year, we realized just how many of our members are military, former military, or from military families. We have partnered with the Salty Dogs, a motorcycle club who has a long history of supporting the Fisher House. John Cleary, one of our own, has been a member and has seen the good work that they do, and thought that it was a perfect combination to bring the folks at Fisher House some much needed support.
